Abstract

in this research the making of biodiesel from used cooking oil palm has been done. Biodiesel is an alternative diesel fuel ingredient that has physical properties similar to diesel. As a fuel, biodiesel has the advantage, that is environmental friendly, a renewable fuel and is also requires no engine modifications. This study is aimed to obtain biodiesel from waste cooking oil and determine the effect of NaOH and methanol in biodiesel manufacturing process. The method used is transesterification using methanol and catalyst NaOH. The result showed that the addition of NaOH catalyst increase the amount of biodiesel produced. The addition of methanol also increases the amount of biodiesel produced but the effect of adding NaOH greater than the addition of methanol. Optimal results obtained on the addition of 230 mL of methanol and 0.5 grams of NaOH. Testing the quality of biodiesel obtained shows biodiesel made from used cooking oil palm meets the ISO standard.
