Abstract

Parenteral nutrition is a form of nutrition that is given directly through blood vessels without passing through the digestive tract, the researchers previously used the term hyperalimentation as a substitute for intravenous feeding, and finally replaced it with a more consistent term, Total Parenteral Nutrition, but generally the term is commonly used Parenteral nutrition to describe a feeding through blood vessels Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is given to patients with disorders of swallowing, digestive disorders and absorption. This study aims to determine the effect of providing Parenteral Nutrition on medical diagnoses and sex, this research is observational analytic by collecting data obtained from hospital medical records. The population in this study were all inpatients who were in the hospital. The sample in this study was the patient was first treated in the NICU room at age 0 days with a seven-day treatment period, the method of selecting samples based on diagnosis, and the most treated body weight. The results showed that many patients treated at the NICU were 32 male babies (67%) and 23 female patients (38%) with premature birth 23 patients (38%), with this Parenteral Nutrition giving an increase in each diagnosis. the range of 20 grams-300gram per day.
