Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of monetary and non-monetary incentives on knowledge-sharing behavior. This study is an experimental study with a 2x2 factorial between-subjects design conducted online (website) involving 109 undergraduate accounting students. The results indicate that knowledge-sharing behavior tends to be higher under monetary incentives compared to non-monetary incentives. Furthermore, the results of this study empirically show that leadership style moderates the relationship between incentives and knowledge sharing behavior. Under non-monetary incentive conditions, transactional leadership styles outperform transformational leadership styles. Meanwhile, under monetary incentive conditions, transformational leadership styles outperform transactional leadership styles.
