PEMBUATAN DAN KARAKTERISASI BRIKET BAHAN BAKAR DARI AMPAS TAHU SEBAGAI ENERGI ALTERNATIF Synthesis and Characterization Fuel Briquettes from Tofu Dregs as Alternative Energy

ABSTRAK
Peningkatan kebutuhan energi serta ketersediaan bahan bakar yang terus berkurang memaksa kita untuk mencari sumber bahan bakar alternatif yang dapat diperbarui (renewable), ramah lingkungan dan bernilai ekonomis. Salah satu jenis sumber energi alternatif yang bisa dikembangkan yaitu energi biomassa seperti limbah sisa pengolahan bahan pangan. Dalam penelitian ini limbah ampas tahu dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar dengan cara mengubahnya menjadi briket. Tujuan pembuatan briket dari ampas tahu dengan berbagai macam variabel untuk mengetahui kualitas briket yang baik ditinjau dari analisis proksimat. Proses pembuatan briket diawali dengan cara mengeringkan ampas tahu, kemudian dihaluskan untuk mendapatkan ukuran partikel tertentu, setelah itu sebagian ampas tahu dikarbonisasi dan dicampur dengan perekat tepung kanji setelah itu dicetak dengan briquetting machine. Hasil pengujian analisis proksimat menunjukan persentase nilai yang bervariasi, dengan nilai moisture content briket ampas tahu sebesar 0,22-0,74%, volatile matter 13,43-22,85%, ash content 2,24-3,53% dan nilai kalor 4435-5191cal/gram. Dimana hanya sampel 4 (briket dari 2 Kg ampas tahu tanpa karbonisasi + 15% perekat + 500 mL air) yang telah memenuhi standar mutu briket (SNI 01-6235-2000).
