Abstract

Abstract: Aluminum 6061 is an alloy composed of Al, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Si, Ti, and Zn, widely utilized in automotive and construction industries due to its excellent corrosion resistance, heat-treatability, good toughness, and weldability. This study aims to analyze the hardenability of aluminum 6061 through the Jominy test and compare the experimental findings with theoretical references. The research employed a laboratory experimental method with descriptive statistical analysis. Four specimens of aluminum 6061 were examined, consisting of three specimens subjected to heat treatment and one specimen without treatment. The heat-treated specimens underwent a hardening process at temperatures of 400°C, 500°C, and 600°C, followed by quenching in water. The results indicate that higher heating temperatures lead to increased hardness values. The untreated specimen exhibited the lowest hardness at 170 HL, whereas the maximum hardness values after hardening reached 287 HL at 400°C, 290 HL at 500°C, and 293 HL at 600°C. These findings demonstrate that increasing the hardening temperature enhances the surface hardness of aluminum 6061.
