Sosialisasi Variasi Dialektal dalam Sastra Inggris untuk Meningkatkan Apresiasi Linguistik di Yayasan Pembangunan Masyarakat Sejahtera

This community service initiative at the Yayasan Pembangunan Masyarakat Sejahtera (YPMS) addressed the low awareness and appreciation of dialectal variations in English literature among students. Through interactive and participatory methods, including discussions, role-playing, and audiovisual media analysis, the program successfully introduced various English dialects (e.g., British, American, Scottish) and their socio-cultural contexts. Post-activity evaluation revealed significant outcomes: (1) increased participant understanding of the distinction between dialect and language, (2) enhanced ability to identify the function of dialects in building literary characters and settings, and (3) a marked improvement in linguistic tolerance and openness to global linguistic diversity. This program demonstrates that a literature-based, experiential learning approach can effectively foster linguistic literacy and cross-cultural empathy in non-formal educational settings.
