Abstract

This study aims to determine the legal certainty of interfaith marriages and how their status is according to Law No. 1 of 1974 in terms of Law No. 23 of 2006. The data collected was analyzed using qualitative methods. The results of the study show that interfaith marriage has indeed become a phenomenon that cannot be separated from the life of Indonesian society which is full of pluralism. Interfaith marriages cannot simply be eliminated by legal regulations, because loving others cannot be limited by religion. The integrity and harmony of the relationship is the dream of all married couples, including married couples of different religions. Differences in religion have indeed become a thing that is vulnerable to the emergence of problems and conflicts in the married life of interfaith couples, because there are many differences in mindsets, perspectives, activities and daily habits which are more or less caused by differences in the religions of the two. Based on this background, the authors see the need to examine how the reality that occurs in the process of interpersonal communication between married couples of different religions. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method with a descriptive type, namely as a research procedure that produces descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and observable behavior, in which the author attempts to provide a description of a social phenomenon. researched. Based on the results of the research conducted, it can be explained that married couples of different religions can communicate the differences that exist between them through an interpersonal communication process which includes openness, empathy, support, positive feelings and equality which are the characteristics of successful interpersonal communication. There is a spirit of respecting differences and maturity in attitudes in dealingwith the fact that they are indeed of different religions and are aware of all the consequences faced in the interfaith marriages they live in, so the success of communication between interfaith couples in managing religious differences that exist between them can be achieved, conflicts in relationships can be minimized, and the harmony and integrity of husband and wife relationships of different religions can be maintained.
