Abstract

Liquid waste rubber industry is the residue of the processing of rubber into a rubber sheet. Air polution, especially the smell is produce by rubber industry, has rised a worry for the community. It happened because the component which exist in rubber material contains R-CO-NH-R, R-NH2-COOH and R-NH2-SH-R. The components during storage will undergo the process of decomposition into odorless compounds include ammonia (ammonia-free), and sulfide compounds. Rubber industrial
wastewater containing ammonia and sulfides will be very dangerous if over the limit established standards so that it can pollute the river water and the surrounding environment. In this research used in allowance ozonator ammonia and sulfides
such contaminants. The purpose of this study is to study the effect of pH on ammonia and sulfides allowance wastewater ozonation of rubber so as to reduce the impact of community health and air pollution. The volume of waste for each treatm ent of 500 mL, diozonisasi for 30 minutes, with the pH variation wastes: 5, 7, and 9. From the experiments showed that the optimal conditions are pH 5. waste,
with removal efficiency of H2S and NH3 respectively show 98.5% and 90.5%.
