TEACHERS IN TEACHING SPEAKING AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (A Study at SMKN 3 Padang-Indonesia)

The importance of understanding on classroom control techniques needs to be understood well by every teacher. However, the phenomena show that not all teachers understand about the implementation of techniques in controlling the process of teaching and learning; speaking. Therefore, the aim of this research was to find out how the teachers implement classroom control techniques in teaching speaking. Participants of this research were English teachers of Vocational High School 3 (SMKN 3) Padang, West Sumatera. The numbers of the teacher in that school were 4 teachers. In deciding the participants, the researcher used total sampling technique. The researcher used questionnaire, field note and observation checklist as the instruments. In collecting the data, the researcher asked the teachers to fill the questionnaires and then observed them in classroom. After analyzing the data of the questionnaire, the researcher got the percentage for each participant; the first participant got 93,1 %, the second participant got 87,5%, the third participant got 78,7%, and the fourth participant got 72, 4%. And from the result of observation, the researcher found out that the teachers had implemented the classroom control techniques in controlling the process of teaching speaking. Data of this research can be inferred that English teachers of SMKN 3 Padang, West Sumatera had implemented classroom control techniques in teaching speaking.
