Abstract

The main problem in using bomb calorimeter is the heat of combustion that flows to surrounding due to the use bad isolator. This problem will give effect to the measurement accuracy in attempt to obtain caloric value of a liquid fuel. To overcome this problem in this research we optimized a prototype of bomb calorimetry to reduce the heat of combustion result flows to surrounding. The modifications carried out in this research include isolator materials, construction and the instrument used to measure water temperature. The results show that there is improvement on isolation ability and the reading of water temperature becomes easier than previous. The temperature measurement shows that the cooling rate is decreased from 0,052°C/min becomes 0,043°C/min.
