Perancangan Alat Peraga Pengolah Limbah Kabel Wire Stripper sebagai Upaya Edukasi Daur Ulang Sampah Elektronik Berbasis Masyarakat di Komunitas Peduli Lingkungan Desa Suradita

Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi Komunitas Peduli Lingkungan Desa Suradita adalah rendahnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan teknis dalam mengelola sampah elektronik, khususnya limbah kabel. Kabel bekas selama ini cenderung dijual dalam kondisi utuh dengan nilai ekonomi rendah, sedangkan pemisahan isolasi dan tembaga belum dilakukan secara optimal karena keterbatasan alat dan keterampilan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan merancang dan mengimplementasikan alat peraga wire stripper mekanis sederhana sebagai teknologi tepat guna sekaligus media edukasi daur ulang limbah kabel. Metode kegiatan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui survei kebutuhan, perancangan dan fabrikasi alat, pelatihan, praktik pengoperasian, uji fungsi, monitoring, serta evaluasi. Alat menggunakan mekanisme rol penarik dan pisau yang dapat diatur sesuai diameter kabel. Hasil pengujian terhadap 10 jenis kabel menunjukkan kemampuan pengupasan pada diameter 0,5–10 mm dengan tingkat keberhasilan rata-rata 85–92%, sedangkan waktu pengupasan kabel sepanjang 1 meter berkisar 15–45 detik. Kegiatan juga meningkatkan pemahaman masyarakat mengenai bahaya e-waste, nilai ekonomi tembaga, dan prinsip ekonomi sirkular. Program menunjukkan bahwa wire stripper mekanis dapat menjadi teknologi tepat guna yang aman, mudah dioperasikan, dan berpotensi mendukung pemberdayaan ekonomi serta pengurangan limbah elektronik berbasis masyarakat.
ABSTRACT
The main problem faced by the Suradita Village Environmental Care Community is the limited technical knowledge and skills in managing electronic waste, particularly cable waste. Used cables have generally been sold intact at low economic value, while the separation of insulation and copper has not been optimized due to limited equipment and technical skills. This community service program aimed to design and implement a simple mechanical wire stripper as an appropriate technology and an educational medium for cable-waste recycling. The activity used a participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, tool design and fabrication, training, operation practice, functional testing, monitoring, and evaluation. The device uses a pulling-roller mechanism and an adjustable cutting blade according to cable diameter. Functional testing on 10 cable types showed successful stripping for diameters of 0.5–10 mm with an average success rate of 85–92%, while the stripping time for 1 meter of cable ranged from 15–45 seconds. The activity also improved community understanding of e-waste hazards, the economic value of copper, and circular-economy principles. The program indicates that a mechanical wire stripper can serve as a safe and easy-to-operate appropriate technology with the potential to support community economic empowerment and reduce electronic waste.
