Abstract

This study aims to see the effectiveness of BPJPH on halal certification of MSME products in Indonesia. Muslim needs for halal products must be supported by halal guarantees. However, not all products circulating in Indonesia are guaranteed to be halal. Muslim consumers are disadvantaged by the large number of non-halal labeled products and non-halal information. This research used a qualitative approach with field research. Data collection by interviewing and observing BPJPH at Uin Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Based on LPPOM MUI certification data, there have been a total of 59,951 companies in the last eight years (2011-2018). Of the 727,617 products produced by the company, 69,985 products are Halal certified (LPPOM MUI). This means that only 9.6% of the products are certified and the rest are not yet halal certified. This does not mean that it is haram, but it could be that the product has not been submitted for halal certification. Halal certification is a business ethic that must be implemented by producers as a halal guarantee for their consumers. The halal label does not only guarantee halal for consumers, but also provides economic benefits for producers as follows: (1) can increase consumer confidence because it is guaranteed halal; , (2) has a unique selling proposition (USP), (3) is able to penetrate the industry, (4) increases product selling power in the market, and (5) is an inexpensive investment compared to sales growth that can be achieved.
