Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia, as the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has enormous zakat potential. Zakat, as one of the pillars of Islam, is an obligation that must be fulfilled by every Muslim who has certain assets. The function of zakat is very important in helping those facing economic difficulties and acting as a social safety net. This study uses a qualitative approach to explore the potential and challenges of digital zakat management in Indonesia, with a focus on how technology integration can improve the effectiveness and transparency of zakat distribution, as well as its impact on the socio-economic welfare of the community. The results of this study indicate that zakat management in Indonesia involves various stakeholders, including government institutions, zakat management organizations (OPZ), communities, NGOs, universities, and Islamic financial institutions. Digitalization, through technologies such as blockchain and social media, has increased the accessibility and efficiency of zakat payments, facilitating community participation. Innovations such as FinTech accelerate the collection and distribution of funds, and increase transparency and accountability, which in turn builds public trust. The positive response from the millennial generation shows the great potential for zakat growth. However, zakat institutions need to invest in IT infrastructure and human resource development to maximize the benefits of digitalization. With the integration of technology, zakat management is expected to be more inclusive, effective, and responsive to community needs, supporting poverty alleviation efforts and improving social welfare in a sustainable manner.
