Pemanfaatan Paten Public Domain untuk Daya Saing Industri (Studi Paten Pupuk Organik)

Indonesia merupakan negara agraris yang mana pupuk organik menjadi kebutuhan primer sektor pertanian. Ironisnya, kebutuhan akan pupuk di Indonesia mayoritas dipenuhi dari sektor pupuk anorganik (pupuk kimia) sebesar 86.41% daripada pupuk organik. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini akan menggagas pemanfaatan paten public domain untuk melakukan inovasi tanpa memulai penelitian dari awal dan memperkecil peluang untuk mengulangi penelitian yang sama (reinventing the wheel). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi literatur yang kemudian dianalisis diskriptif. Hasil penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa China menduduki peringkat pertama dalam permohonan paten di bidang pupuk organik mencapai angka 25.468 paten terdaftar. Untuk itu, penelitian ini diharapkan memberikan pemahaman kepada peneliti untuk memanfaatan tekhnologi yang telah public domain dalam rangka melakukan reverse engineering atau pengembangan atas hasil invensi berdasarkan teknologi pupuk organik yang informasinya tersedia dalam database permohonan paten.
