Abstract

The increasing use of digital technology among junior high school students highlights the need to improve their understanding of digital security and personal data protection. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ understanding and awareness of safe digital behavior. The activity was conducted at SMP Negeri 12 Kota Tangerang Selatan on April 22, 2026, involving 30 students. A participatory educational approach was implemented through material delivery, interactive discussions, simulations, and practical activities covering account security, phishing identification, personal data protection, strong password practices, and cyberbullying prevention. Evaluation was conducted through pre-tests, post-tests, observations, and practical assessments. The results indicated positive changes in participants’ understanding of digital security and personal data protection. The evaluation showed that understanding of digital security changed from low to high, phishing identification from low to good, personal data protection from fair to very good, strong password practices from low to good, and awareness of cyberbullying from moderate to very good. All participants attended the entire activity, resulting in a 100% attendance rate, and actively participated in discussions, simulations, and practical activities. These findings indicate that an educational approach combining material delivery, discussion, simulation, and practice can support improvements in students’ understanding and awareness of digital security and personal data protection.
