Abstract

This study aims to identify the challenges and opportunities faced by Islamic educational institutions in curriculum renewal efforts, focusing on Islamic educational institutions in Doridungga Village, Donggo District. As an alternative institution in the national education system, Islamic educational institutions have a strategic role in forming a generation of believers and pious, and function as a bulwark against the flow of Christianization in the region. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data are classified into primary and secondary data, and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and verification techniques. The results of the study indicate that there are a number of opportunities that can be utilized, including support from the majority Muslim community, strong religious enthusiasm, and funding support from the local government. However, Islamic educational institutions also face various challenges, including pressure from the secular democratic political system that limits the role of religion in the curriculum, local cultural challenges, and rapid developments in information technology. Therefore, curriculum renewal is a must so that Islamic educational institutions are able to adapt and remain relevant to the needs of the times.
