Abstract

In the digital communication era, Citizen Journalism is a new approach for anyone to share information on digital media platforms. This activity involves news gathering and reporting by anybody without formal journalism training. However, lacking understanding of basic journalism principles results such as unbalanced information and a lack of fact-checking. This condition exacerbates the spread of hoax information in society. Moreover when clickbait becomes the indicator, speed and sensationalism take precedence over accuracy. Understanding the boundaries and responsibilities of Citizen Journalism is crucial, particularly when it comes to ethics in sharing information through mass media. Embedding ethics in Citizen Journalism is a key aspect of Media Literacy that needs to be reinforced, especially among young people who are the primary users of digital media. Community service initiatives, such as the one at SMA Terpadu Baitul Hikmah, play a vital role in deepening teenagers' understanding of ethical Citizen Journalism practices.
