Selain jumlah Darboux, jumlah trapesium juga dapat digunakan dalam menghampiri luas daerah di bawah kurva dari suatu fungsi ð‘“ real taknegatif pada suatu interval [ð‘Ž, ð‘]. Untuk setiap partisi ð‘ƒð‘› yang membagi interval [ð‘Ž, ð‘] menjadi ð‘› subinterval dengan jarak yang sama, dibentuk suatu pendekatan dari nilai integral atau luas di bawah kurva ð‘“ pada [ð‘Ž, ð‘] yakni, jumlah trapesium ð‘‡ð‘› (ð‘“). Dalam tulisan ini, akan diperlihatkan bahwa terdapat suatu fungsi linear sesepenggal ð‘” yang menghampiri fungsi konveks ð‘“ sedemikian sehingga ekor barisan dari barisan jumlah trapesium {ð‘‡ð‘› (ð‘”)}ð‘›=1 ∞ adalah monoton naik.
