Kulit Tiram jenis Crossostrea sp ternyata dapat digunakan sebagai bahan penyusun pembuatan lem kaca dikarenakan kandungan kalsium karbonat yang cukup tinggi. Kalsium karbonat dalam kulit tiram ini digunakan sebagai filler pada lem kaca. Dari penelitian yang dilakukan pada 7 kulit tiram kadar kalsium karbonat yang terkandung dalam kulit tiram rata-rata sebesar 75,01%. Dengan bahan penyusun yang lain seperti gum arabik, kitin, kulit telur dan titanium dapat dibuat lem kaca yang tahan terhadap air kurang lebih 5 jam, air garam kurang lebih 4 jam, dan tahan dalam asam maupun basa kurang lebih 3 jam. Selain itu kulit tiram mengandung beberapa gugus setelah dilakukan uji FTIR. Yakni gugus amina, gugus alkohol dan gugus karbonil.Downloads
