PEMANFAATAN KARBON AKTIF DARI LIMBAH KULIT DURIAN SEBAGAI ADSORBEN LIMBAH INDUSTRI TAHU DI DAERAH SEPANJANG, SIDOARJO

Kulit durian memiliki kandungan selulosa yang tinggi dan kandungan lignin dan pati yang rendah. Kandungan selulosa membuat kulit durian dapat digunakan sebagai bahan dalam pembuatan karbon aktif. Tujuan penelitian ini mengetahui karakteristik karbon aktif yang disintesis dan pengaruh massa karbon aktif terhadap kadar Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) dan Total Suspended Solid (TSS) dalam air limbah tahu. Kulit durian dikarbonisasi selama 2 jam pada suhu 400oC dan diaktivasi KOH 25% selama 24 jam. Kadar air, abu, iod pada karbon aktif yang dihasilkan masing-masing sebesar 10,1539%, 6,3560%, dan 1194,336 mg/g. Pengujian Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) pada karbon aktif tersebut menghasilkan luas permukaan 471,6 m2/g. COD, BOD dan TSS optimum dalam pengujian terhadap limbah cair tahu mencapai 1048 mg/L, 580 mg/L dan 124 mg/L.
