Abstract

The Waste management is a persistent challenge in urban areas. Indonesia is a country with a vast and diverse population of large cities, tourist destinations, and industrial areas. According to data from the National Research Agency, more than 35% of total waste in Indonesia, or approximately 11 million metric tons by 2025, falls into the unmanaged category, ultimately polluting rivers, ravines, and even main roads and drainage channels. This research was conducted by exploring studies related to waste problems and solutions from a social aspect, the novelty of information technology and mobile-based systems as well as government regulations related to waste management policies. This research proposes a system design called WasteZap. This system encourages collaboration from all parties to care about cleanliness and waste. The WasteZap architecture consists of an End User Layer, Data Process and Storage, and a Communication Layer. The user participation model is implemented in the form of crowdsourcing to achieve participant scalability.
