SOCIALIZATION AND DEMONSTRATION OF UTILIZATION OF BANANA PEEL WASTE AND RICE WASHING WATER AS LIQUID ORGANIC FERTILIZER AT AL-KHAIRIYAH PIPITAN PRIVATE ISLAMIC HIGH SCHOOL

Abstract

The community service activity (PKM) at MA Swasta Al-Khairiyah Pipitan aimed to educate the community, particularly the students, about the use of banana peel and rice wash water waste as liquid organic fertilizers. Banana peel waste, which is often discarded, contains essential nutrients beneficial for plant growth, while rice wash water is also rich in nutrients that support plant development. This program utilized socialization and demonstration methods to show how to make liquid organic fertilizer from these materials. The fertilizer production process involved fermenting the mixture for 14 days, with additional ingredients such as EM4 and Yakult to speed up the process. The results revealed that the participants, consisting of 30 students, were highly enthusiastic and successfully understood both the preparation and benefits of liquid organic fertilizer. The program also raised awareness among participants about the importance of utilizing organic waste to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Overall, the activity provided valuable insight into managing household waste in an environmentally friendly way and offered an alternative solution to the fertilizer scarcity issue in Indonesia.
