Publication Ethics

The publication of articles in KOMMAS: Jurnal Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat reflects the quality of the work of the authors and their institutions. Therefore, maintaining high standards of ethical behavior is essential for all parties involved in the publishing process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The ethical standards outlined here are based on guidelines from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

  1. Duties of Authors
  • Originality and Plagiarism:
    Authors must ensure that their works are original and free from plagiarism. Proper citations should be provided for all referenced materials.
  • Multiple Submissions:
    Authors must not submit the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources:
    Proper acknowledgment of sources is mandatory. Any data, research, or content from other works must be cited appropriately.
  • Authorship Criteria:
    Only individuals who have made significant contributions to the study should be listed as authors. Co-authors should be those who have substantially contributed to the research or writing process.
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest:
    Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest that might influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
  • Data Transparency:
    Authors should provide raw data for editorial review if requested and ensure data accessibility for at least 5 years post-publication.
  1. Duties of Editors
  • Fair Decision-Making:
    Editors must evaluate manuscripts solely based on their academic merit, without regard to the authors' race, gender, religious belief, or institutional affiliation.
  • Confidentiality:
    Editors must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and publisher.
  • Plagiarism Check:
    Editors must ensure all manuscripts are screened for plagiarism before proceeding to the review process.
  1. Duties of Reviewers
  • Confidentiality:
    Reviewers must treat the manuscript as a confidential document and should not share or discuss its contents with others.
  • Objectivity:
    Reviews must be conducted objectively, with clear arguments and constructive criticism provided to improve the manuscript.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources:
    Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and inform the editors of any significant similarities to other published content.
  • Timeliness:
    Reviewers must complete their reviews promptly and inform the editors if delays are expected.
  1. Duties of the Publisher
  • Support for Ethical Practices:
    The publisher is committed to ensuring that commercial interests do not influence editorial decisions.
  • Handling Ethical Misconduct:
    The publisher will work with editors to investigate and resolve any cases of suspected ethical misconduct, including retractions or corrections when necessary.

Ethical Violations and Actions

KOMMAS is committed to taking appropriate measures when ethical breaches are identified. This includes:

  • Issuing corrections or retractions for articles with proven misconduct.
  • Banning authors from submitting manuscripts for a specific period.
  • Reporting serious ethical violations to the relevant institutions.
